Last week, my husband and I took a trip to New York. While doing a little sight-seeing there, we decided to stop at a local bar to speak to the locals of the area. There I met a lady that made me see and view things a little differently. She was a nice older lady, that I could tell had been through a lot in her life by looking in her eyes, which was later validated through my conversation with her. You see, my family and I are actually relocating to New York, which explains the random trip there. I have always lived where I live currently and known the community in Georgia since I was in the 1st grade. My family is here and needless to say I have gotten very comfortable here. I have help with the kids, free babysitting (i.e. my mom), and family dinners. For me, this move, that is a 20 hours drive away from where live now, will be an eye opening experience (most needed though). I sat there at the bar and listen to the nice lady’s life story. She lived a pretty interesting life, but it was filled with despair, fear, abuse, depression, death among other not so nice things. But as I sat there and listened to her story, I noticed that even through all the tough situations she had to endure, she still smiled. The whole time….she smiled. I could not believe that even at the valleys in her story she still smiled. She had lived a tough life and she still pushed on with her life with a smile on her face. Never giving up in spite of these things. I was in awe of her determination.
Her story made me realize that all the obstacles that occur in our lives are nothing that can keep us down. They can’t stop us from achieving my goals. Only you can stop yourself from achieving your goals. If we want something even if it is in the valleys of our life, than we can achieve it. You have to believe it is possible. For me, my health and fitness goals are easy to achieve in the peaks of my life. Having a lot of support from family and friends in Georgia, with people to lean on or just being comfortable in my life, makes it easy to stay healthy and fit. But what about the difficult times in our life. I am going to a place where I don’t know much about the city or anyone in it. Will it be possible? Most definitely! Because of what I took from her story. In life comes tough times, but don’t let it break you down or break your spirit. Let it build you up. Keep your health and fitness goals in check, even through the tough times. Your health and fitness is important, not only for you but your family as well. Don’t lose sight of your goals. Exercise and eating right should be a priority in all of our lives. So don’t let anything get in the way of that.
